In “It’s about You!” we discussed making your communications about the donor. It can be an easy fix to add in a few “you” words, personalize the message and send out your email. However, making it personal can also mean something quite different.
In today’s world with 3.4 million non-profit organizations in the United States alone, the chances of a donor stumbling over your organization and donating simply because they like the cause is diminishing. That’s kind of depressing. But it needn’t be, because there’s an antidote - People give to People; Make it Personal!
Last year I was introduced to the concept of peer-2-peer fundraising. If I'm honest, I was incredibly cynical at first; it just didn’t make sense how a bunch of inexperienced friends, relatives, neighbors and volunteers could raise more money in 48 hours than some of the best oiled non profit organizations out there.
As I delved deeper into peer-2-peer fundraising (or crowdfunding as it’s also known), I learned the ultimate secret of fundraising; a secret that had eluded me for the past 30 years of working with non-profit organizations:
In other words, the key to 90% of the success in fundraising is knowing WHY you're asking, and sharing your passion for the cause with those around you. Only 10% is the actual ask. You see, when there’s passion and excitement, the rest is easy.
With a professional company such as CauseMatch managing the campaign to run the technical aspects, key in on the messaging, energize the fundraising team and guide the organization through all the myriad of other tasks necessary to ensure maximum results, the numbers speak for themselves. Within the last few months I've been privileged to see small non-profit organizations with no existing donor base, raise hundreds of thousands of dollars by making it personal!
Each organization has its own dynamic needs and my goal is to help your organization move to the next level and turn your vision into donations. One way is via crowdfunding. One of the services I offer is by partnering with CauseMatch and I would love to see if crowdfunding is the right choice for your organization.
